Our Principal
James M. “Jay” Bailey is a globally respected voice on leadership, innovation, and long-term impact — shaped by more than three decades of experience building organizations, aligning capital, and advancing economic opportunity at scale. He is known for helping leaders move beyond ideas and ambition toward decisions that carry lasting significance.
Jay serves as President and CEO of the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs (RICE), the world’s largest entrepreneurial hub dedicated to the growth and scale of Black-owned businesses. Under his leadership, RICE has become an international reference point for inclusive innovation, supporting hundreds of entrepreneurs, sustaining thousands of jobs, and generating substantial economic impact across communities.
Across his career, Jay’s work has focused on building systems that expand access, unlock potential, and endure, often in complex environments where business, community, and purpose intersect. His perspective is shaped not only by success, but by responsibility: understanding what it takes to build things that last, and what is required to steward opportunity well.
Grounded in the belief that leadership extends beyond the present moment, Jay approaches his work as stewardship — building for people he may never meet and outcomes he may never personally benefit from. When he speaks, audiences don’t just feel inspired; they leave with greater clarity, confidence, and a deeper sense of what meaningful leadership requires.
He lives in Atlanta with his wife, NBC journalist Blayne Alexander, and their two daughters.
